A romantic dark floral with paired songbirds, set against a saturated burgundy-oxblood ground. Cream-yellow camellia-like blossoms and deep crimson camellias open along bare branches, with smaller buds clustered at the joints and small leaves in muted sage-olive. Two chickadee-like songbirds — gray, white-bellied, with rust-orange flanks and yellow accents at the breast — perch among the blooms, painted with the careful precision of an old illustrated naturalist's plate.
The branches form the structural skeleton of the pattern. They twist and fork across the wall in a continuous network that connects every bloom and every bird, giving the paper the quality of a single observed scene rather than a tossed repeat. The oxblood ground is deep enough to read as near-black at distance, but it warms toward red where light falls more directly. Cream and gold petal interiors glow against the dark; the songbirds register as small narrative anchors rather than decorative filler.
This paper deserves rooms that respect ornament. A primary bedroom in a Victorian, a small dining room papered to the ceiling and lit by candles, a study with built-in bookshelves, a stair landing visible from the entry. Pair it with oxidized brass, oxblood leather, antique silver, and creamy plaster trim. It reads as deeply nineteenth-century without feeling reproduction-stiff — the songbirds carry enough warmth that the pattern always feels inhabited rather than archival.
