A simple, scattered floral in cream-white cosmos and small five-petal blossoms tossed across a soft sage-green ground. Each flower is painted with quick gestural strokes — a few petals, a yellow-ochre center, a dark-olive stem with small leaves — and dropped into the field in irregular orientations and varied scale. Smaller bud clusters and stems-without-flowers fill the negative space between larger blooms.
The sage ground has subtle painted texture beneath the toss — small variations in color and value that prevent the green from reading as flat fill. The palette is restricted to four notes: sage ground, cream petals, ochre centers, and dark olive leaves. The result is calm rather than busy, with enough painted personality to feel handmade and enough restraint to function as a quiet field across a whole room.
This paper has broad utility. A primary bedroom with white linens, a girl's room aiming for unfussy charm, a kitchen breakfast area, a powder room in a cottage, a back hall or laundry room. Pair it with painted shaker cabinets, white-painted bead-board, woven baskets, antique pine, and unlacquered brass. The sage ground reads as a soft neutral against most furnishings, and the cream cosmos provides enough visual interest to anchor the room without competing with anything else. It performs well in rooms with abundant natural light, where the sage stays alive and the cosmos centers glow.
