A scalloped fan motif arranged in overlapping rows that climb the wall in the manner of fish scales or temple roof tiles. Each fan is filled with a single watercolor wash in cream, deep forest green, mustard, peach-orange, dusty rose, soft butterscotch, or sage, and each is overlaid with a fine radiating line pattern in a contrasting white that suggests the inner ribs of a hand-held fan. The overall effect is festive but controlled — a celebration arranged with strict geometry.
The painted quality is the heart of the paper. Each fan is a single quick wash that bloomed and pooled before drying, giving every shape a small irregular gradation of value. The cream ground shows between the rows and around the edges of the fans, providing visual breath. The palette is wide — seven distinct colors — but the saturation is consistent and warm, so the wall reads as harmonious rather than jumbled.
This paper has unmistakable resort and tropical references but is restrained enough to perform in unexpected places. A breakfast nook with a banquette, a girl's bedroom growing into something more sophisticated, a powder room with a brass washstand, a butler's pantry. Pair it with white-painted bead-board, woven seagrass, ceramics in matte glazes, and natural oak. The fan pattern moves the eye horizontally and gives the wall a playful rhythm without committing to busy floral or graphic. Best in rooms with abundant natural light, where the watercolor washes can be read fully.
