An oversized two-color botanical in deep emerald and saturated mustard yellow, set against a softly mottled antique ivory ground. Spider-mum and pompon chrysanthemum heads bloom at near-life scale, paired with serrated maple-shaped leaves and small round buds clustered along bare stems. The mums alternate in color across the repeat — emerald flowers paired with their own dark foliage, yellow flowers paired with the same emerald leaves — which creates a strong rhythmic punch without ever introducing a third color into the figure.
The paint quality is layered. Each flower has visible interior shading — darker green at the heart of the green mums, deeper mustard at the base of the yellow ones — and the leaves carry both flat masses and fine vein lines drawn with a thinner brush. The ivory background is not flat; it has the soft uneven tone of an old papered wall with faint shadow blooms where the previous block-print impression underlay the new one. The overall effect reads as Edwardian bookplate by way of a 1930s English country textile.
This paper rewards rooms that lean toward serious decoration. A dining room with chair rail and white wainscoting, a butler's pantry, a primary bedroom with dark walnut or oxidized brass, the hallway leading to a paneled library. Pair it with creamy English china, hammered pewter, oiled walnut, and burnished gold leaf on a mirror or two. The yellow keeps the green from going gloomy and the green keeps the yellow from going acidic — a classic dyad that performs across decor styles from Cotswold cottage to East Coast Federal.
